What Is a Mulmul Saree?
Mulmul (also written malmal or mul) is a very fine, lightweight pure cotton fabric with a soft, slightly sheer feel. It is the same family as muslin, woven with fine cotton yarn, which is why a mulmul saree feels cooler and falls more softly than a regular cotton saree.
Because the fabric is so light, it takes hand block prints beautifully: the dye goes right through, and the saree gets softer with every wash. That is why mulmul is the main fabric for Jaipur's daily-wear and summer saree trade, and why South Indian and coastal buyers order it all year.

How to check real mulmul: it should feel feather-light and soft, show light through the weave, and crush and recover without a plastic shine. Polyester "mul" feels slippery and warm and melts in a burn test, while cotton burns to soft ash.
